The Chimpanzee – ENTP

A Chimpanzee in a nutshell: innovation for innovation’s sake, cleverness for cleverness’ sake, and a wink and a nod to those too slow to keep up. Eschewing the pragmatic goals of the Killer Whale and Spider, and far flashier than the understated Owl, Chimpanzees view themselves as a different breed of Smith. They are highly skeptical of both specialization and laughter less rooms, making them the most versatile and mischievous of all the types.

The Troubleshooter

Tesla

If Edison had a needle to find in a haystack, he would proceed at once with the diligence of the bee to examine straw after straw until he found the object of his search. … I was a sorry witness of such doings, knowing that a little theory and calculation would have saved him ninety per cent of his labor.

– Nikola Tesla

The versatility of the Chimpanzee derives from their relentless desire to discover—perhaps invent—new concepts in a variety of different fields… Preorder The Power of Personality to learn more!

The Practical Jokester

Tina Fey

They made a porn movie about Sarah Palin and the same actress, Lisa Ann, played me in the porn version of 30 Rock. Weirdly, of the three of us, Lisa Ann knows the most about foreign policy.

– Tina Fey

It’s true that most Smiths put absolutely no stock in traditional societal values unsupported by logic, though each Smith deals with social pressure in their own way… Preorder The Power of Personality to learn more!

The Eccentric

Richard Feynman

Hell, if I could explain it to the average person, it wouldn’t have been worth the Nobel Prize.

– Richard Feynman

To the outside viewer, the mind of a Chimpanzee can seem like a hurricane of random thoughts (Can rotors induce flight? What are the benefits of nanotechnology? Where’s the best BBQ joint west of Texas?) and in the eye of the storm sits the Chimpanzee, comprehending it all in real time… Preorder The Power of Personality to learn more!

The Inventor

Gadget

Oh, Monty! How many times do you think the wings can fall off a plane?

– Gadget, Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers

Despite all their charisma and energy, it’s in the lab, studio, or whatever workspace they use, where Chimpanzees feel most at home… Preorder The Power of Personality to learn more!

  • I usually identify as intp but this was certainly fascinating

being an entp seems more exciting but alas I cannot identify with it

    • ENTP’s and INTP’s have their first second functions switched around, and then their third and fourt functions switched around. They’re the same functions in a different order! ENTP: extroverted intuition, introverted thinking, extroverted feeling, introverted sensing; INTP: introverted thinking, extroverted intuition, introverted sensing, extroverted feeling.
My dad is an INTP and I’m an ENTP. Conversations with him about how the world worked were like conversational experiments. He’s also one of the most intelligent people I’ve ever met and answered my plethora of questions with well thought out, knowledgeable answers. A phenominal learning resource for a young Chimp!

  • I feel exactly the same Freya.

  • I was typed as INTP but my I & E were borderline. I can definitely identify with this just as much as INTP traits. At the root is NT which makes up the base personality in my opinion.

    • Hi Kristin,

Right, the NT, or Rational base (more info on our Rationals page), determines a lot about a person’s temperament. As far as the difference between Chimpanzees(ENTPs) and Owls(INTPs), I would recommend not viewing through the “E” vs. “I” dichotomy. The biggest difference between the two is how they process information. The former gathers information by experimenting, testing, and creating models (think Tony Stark and the school of experimental physics). The latter prefers to analyze information internally (think Einstein and the school of theoretical physics).

  • Did your test for fun, had me pegged as an infp which I have already had before but know not to be correct.I am however an entp and this might be one of the best descriptions I’ve seen as of yet 🙂

Especially the incremental improving (even in little ways) and ofcourse the style of troubleshooting .Good job

  • Usually typed as an INTP. However I️ sometimes think about the possibility of being an ambivert. Maybe this is pointing me in that direction?

  • Adding the speed of communication to make up for lack of understanding….thats IS ME
I ahve taken 3 different tests all came back tellin me an ENTP.
