Which Game of Thrones Character Shares Your Personality Type?

Written by Eric Gee

“Look what is done cannot be now amended.”

Spoiler alert: If you have not yet seen Game of Thrones up to season 5, you might want to stop here.

ESTP – Jaime Lannister

Jaime Lannister

Brash, cocky, and with a mouth that can get him in and out of trouble, Jaime is the prototypical ESTP charmer. One could imagine his life as a perpetual bed-hopper if he weren’t in love with his sister.

ISTP – Arya Stark

arya-stark

Attack first, ask questions- maybe never. As fierce as her wolf Nymeria, and with an obsessive attachment to her favorite tool, Needle, Arya is a role model for all ISTPs who want to kick ass or become a deadly assassin- or both.

ESFP – Oberyn Martell

Oberyn_Martell

Ahhhh, if he could have just avoided the urge to spike the ball and do a touchdown dance, Oberyn’s head would still be spherical in shape as opposed to compressed. But who could resist the flashy persona and kinetic energy of the Prince of Dorne?

ISFP – Davos Seaworth

Davos Seaworth

Easy-going Ser Davos lives for the simple pleasures like bonding with precocious Shireen Baratheon. Gentle by nature, Davos can’t understand the violent zealotry that Melisandre preaches, preferring to spend his days feeling the wind on his face as he sails along the coast, while sneaking in the occasional smuggling run to add a little excitement.

ESTJ – Cersei Lannister

Cersei-Lannister

The authority of her title, the prestige of her family- does anyone ever really refer to her as a Baratheon-, these are the foundations on which Cersei seeks to rule over all of Westeros. As someone who takes seriously both aspects of the title “Queen Mother”, Cersei looms large and in charge, like the school principal you wish you never had.

ISTJ – Stannis Baratheon

stannis-baratheon

To say that Stannis adheres to the rules would be an understatement. He is merciless in his fairness, even to himself; how else could we explain his willingness to sacrifice his own daughter for the sake of duty.

ESFJ – Sansa Stark

Sansa Stark

Socially aware and possessed with a proclivity to withstand pain as opposed to give it, Sansa needed both of those traits to survive her time as future Queen of the Andals and fiancé to Joffrey, otherwise known as the unluckiest person in Westeros. It says a lot about the nature of an ESFJ that despite her various tragedies, she is still basically the same optimistic, friendly person, albeit with a toughness strengthened by experience.

ISFJ – Brienne of Tarth

Brienne of Tarth

Shy and introverted, nothing drags Brienne out of her shell more than the prospect of a loved one in danger. The perfect example of ISFJ loyalty, Brienne lives to serve and protect those worthy of her trust and respect, and pity on those who would dare try to hurt them.

ENTJ – Olenna Tyrell

olenna-tyrell

Olenna plays the part of the feeble old lady in public. However, behind the scenes she spars with all of the notable power players in King’s Landing. Blunt in conversation and domineering in presence, to all those in the know, the Queen of Thorns is the real power behind House Tyrell.

INTJ – Littlefinger

Littlefinger

Impenetrable to all save a select few, the calculating Lord Peytr Baelish plays his cards close to his vest, which serves to hide his web of schemes from view. A master of contingency planning, this INTJ always seems to live by the cardinal rule: a Plan A is only as valuable as the readiness of a Plan B… and C.

ENTP – Tyrion Lannister

tyron-lannister

The possessor of a keen and innovative mind, Tyrion himself jokes that it’s “the best part of me”. In a pinch, it can convince slavers and tribesman to spare his life. And for those who are intelligent enough to see past the jester, they know that the drunken dwarf, who is never at a loss for a wisecrack or an ironic jibe, is an intellectual force to be reckoned with.

INTP – Varys

Lord-Varys

Perhaps the one individual in the Seven Kingdoms better-read than Tyrion Lannister, Lord Varys, former Spymaster of the Seven Kingdoms, commands a vast network of informants that spans the known world. He views the world as one big machine, with knowledge being the ultimate control, but rarely does he pull the levers, preferring to watch it all unfold from afar.

ENFJ – Mance Rayder

Mance Rayder

Mance Rayder, with his charisma and diplomatic ability, was the only person capable of uniting all of the warring factions beyond the Wall. Like his fellow ENFJs, Mance sought to understand all of the nuances of the individual clans, their different customs, languages, hierarchies, and in the end, convinced them that the ways they differed were far outweighed by the thing they shared: the need to survive.

INFJ – Jon Snow

Jon-snow

Facing that common INFJ conundrum- wanting to be accepted in a society that marginalizes him- the Bastard of Winterfell seeks out greater purpose with the egalitarian Night’s Watch. Whether he’s humbly accepting the role of Lord Commander, or making an unpopular peace treaty with the Free Folk, Jon Snow learns one important thing: if you don’t like the world you’re in, don’t try to fit in, just change it.

ENFP – Daenerys Targaryen

Daenerys Targaryen

Her intuition led her into a bonfire that gave birth to three dragons, and her confidence in her own moral conscience led to the liberation of Slaver’s Bay. Daenerys reveals her ENFP stripes in many ways- inspirational speeches, revolutionary goals- but none more revealing than her belief that she could climb onto the back of Drogon and, with no special training, become the first dragon rider in more than a century.

INFP – Bran Stark

Bran Stark

Like most INFPs, sensitive and thoughtful Bran can sometimes find himself detached from the concrete world, especially when he literally removes himself from his own body and wargs into Summer or Hodor. While other characters squabble for political gain, or flee south from the true threat of the White Walkers, Bran leads his party north towards certain danger, so that he might discover his true identity.

  • I gotta say, while I appreciate this post and the thought you’ve put into this, I disagree with a lot of your typing. It’s hard to tell if you’ve only watched the show or if you’ve read the books as well, so that could have something to do with it. I myself haven’t watched the show yet so my analysis would be solely based on the books, which is fine by my standards because they’re from the character’s POV anyways so people probably get more insight.

Anyways, I’ve always pegged Dany, Jon, and Bran as INFPs. I know that’s a lot of INFPs, especially because in a lot of media and stuff they seem to be rare, but I think GRRM is INFP so it’s natural to reflect part of himself in certain characters. The reason I think Dany is INFP rather than ENFP is because she does not really enjoy spending time with people that much to be honest. She’s always by herself or with a few trusted people, thinking about how to handle everything. She’s great and compassionate to all her followers, but she’s drained from all the attention, she doesn’t feed off it.

I agreed with your description with Bran. And I find Jon to be more P than J because honestly he’s not a very organized dude. His thoughts are all over the place. I mean, maybe there’s a chance he’s J, but I’ve never thought of him like that.

I also think Tyrion is closer to INTP than ENTP. I know he seems to be ENTP-like, but then again, he doesn’t really like anyone. He spent a lot of free time reading and learning in seclusion. This could just be because of the stigma of his dwarfism though. I’ve just always thought of him as INTP.

I would switch the typing for Arya and Davos. Arya is so filled with emotions. The only reason she’s training under the Kindly Man in Braavos is for vengeance, no matter how much she tries to mask it to him and herself. I don’t see a T doing that. And Davos, while I agree that he’s kind and values his morals very much, is more of a thinker than a feeler. He’s always thinking logically, and planning and strategizing.

I agree with everything else though. =)

  • Dude… Daenerys is INFJ. I have no idea how you could’ve decided she’s a Ne-dom and not the huge Fe user that she is. Explanation please.
